Aaron Zinman – Personas

I presented this site in my Digital Media class. We had a discussion about the artistic merit of the project, and I felt it had a couple other artistic dimensions besides the clean, minimal aesthetic. It uses an info-graphic format (and kind of claims to be functional like that), but it’s level of abstraction through (usually inaccurate) categorization presented in a rapid jumbled collage, along with its mirror-like function elevates it slightly.

This another Flash project, and I’d say again playing of info-graphics extensively—it’s tagged with a “venn diagram” (also mirrored in the inclusive “everything,“ in the name of the project and also, with the stars and domes, calls to mind new and old depictions/charts of the heavens. Unlike the Personas project, there’s, there’s no actual data representation, or even remotely pragmatic component to this piece. I think it creates a real sense of “thingness,” actually, feeling like a real toy displaced digitally.

It’s very minimal, and I think that’s its strongest aspect—the isolation of something common (to Facebook users at least)—along with all the other little touches/flourishes put together very compactly.
